COVID Spike Not Expected to Impact Tourism
There is an increase of COVID cases following the Christmas holidays, but the closure of schools at this time has helped to keep those numbers from ballooning into an uncontrollable number of new infections. With a spike in COVID numbers, there’s always the concern of how it would affect travel, but at least for now, there’s no need to be worried about COVID numbers since we’ve moved past the very deadly variants and have immunization in place. In the tourism sector, Belize has done a good job over the past two years getting properties and tour guides ready to rebound from the COVID scourge of the past.

“Over the past two years we have done a very good job, a substantial job in getting our properties and our tour operators and tour guides ready to be able to manage whatever situation may come to be. We established the Tourism Gold Standard program when the pandemic was at its height and this prepared employees of the tourism sector to be able to manage any sort of uprise in cases. We have a very close working relationship with our health authorities and with authorities at the border points so that we can keep a tab on what’s happening and if there needs to be any additional measures provided by our industry then we can recommend that to the industry. But at this time I think we are looking forward to a very good end of the year and beginning of the 2023 year. As you know, this is our high season, so we do not foresee any sort of impacts.”
