Belize Pushes Tourism in U.S., Mexico, Europe, and now South America
Turning back to tourism… When Belize’s tourism industry began to recover from the shutdown, we placed great emphasis on marketing to our number one customer, the United States, and then we looked closer to home. Those efforts have paid off, as B.T.B’s Director of Quality Management Abil Castaneda told us. He says there are four main markets we have our eyes on.

“The main area that the country really looked at was obviously the US market, which is and has been the main market for tourism for not only Belize but many other countries over here. However, we have been working in Mexico in bringing that population that exists in Mexico – millions of people that we have not really tapped into – so that’s something that we’re looking at, getting some direct flights from Mexico and doing some additional marketing and I know for next year, there’s also work in getting into the South American and the Latin American markets as well. Europe, that’s something that we started. What happened in the early part of the year was that, if you recall, there were a lot of travel restrictions in Europe and even in Canada. Now as those restrictions have been removed, we have seen a return of the traffic from Canada and from Europe as well and we continue to work in Europe to try to build that base back.”
