Minister Chebat Agrees that P.B.L. Needs Upgraded Cargo Terminal
Last month, Prime Minister John Briceño indicated how urgently the Belize Port Authority facility is in need of an upgraded cargo terminal. The PM said that the operations of the day cannot continue as they have been at the port and that an investment has to be made, whether by the receivership which manages its day-to-day business or a new investor. And today, the minister in charge of ports, Michel Chebat, was in sync with the prime minister in that all efforts have to be made to ensure that the facility performs optimally.
Michel Chebat, Minister of Public Utilities, Energy, Logistics and E-Governance
“We are the regulators of all ports in this country, and we have an interest to make sure that the economy of this country continues to roll. It is no secret that the Port (of Belize) has been having some significant problems with their warehousing, stevedoring and so on, so as a government, we have a national interest to make sure that it is operating at its optimal best.”
