Anthony Mahler and M.I.D.H. Partners to Provide Starter Home for Father of Three
And, while Choc must wait an additional seven days before receiving her home, a former Pickstock constituent who recently took up residence in Sandhill Village today received the keys to his brand new home. The Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing held a short ribbon cutting ceremony today in the village where a father of three, Brian Ortiz, finally realized a lifelong dream. He declined to give a comment on camera, and simply told us that he and his family are grateful for all who made this day possible. We did, however, hear from Anthony Mahler, the Area Representative for Pickstock, who played a key role in lobbying for Ortiz and his family to own their new home.
Anthony Mahler, Area Representative, Pickstock Division
“In Belize we are land strap. We have little land in Belize available. We have a lot of abandoned land, but we have to go through our process to see if we can acquire those. And so we have to find other areas where we can build quality homes for people. That is a priority for me, that is a priority for government and that is a part of plan Belize. And so Mr. Ortiz has his own land here and he said alright I’m ready and he now has this beautiful home. And if you can see how it was living before to what we have, no, it’s great improvement. This is a second one. But what we did was with our first budget we went into one of the long barracks as you got it here in Belize and we retrofitted and did almost all or all of the apartments there and so those apartments were in bad bad shape after thirteen years of neglect and so the money that was allocated to Pickstock we use that to fix up that landmarks and so people are living a quality lifestyle in there now and we have more work to do in that area and the same thing with the other landmarks.. We’re working tremendously hard with the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing to ensure that we deliver as many of these keys as possible.”
