Tryouts to begin for National Choir
Music lovers will soon be able to enjoy the voices of Belizean children as the Arts Council prepares for the selection of the first National Youth Choir. Although it won’t be until August twenty-sixth that rehearsals get underway, interested children between the ages of eight and thirteen are being invited to try out for thirty spaces in the choir. The auditions will be held on August third and fourth from five to seven in the evening. According to National Voice Coordinator Mindy Mansfield, children from all over the country are encouraged to come and try out.

“I’ll be judging them. They don’t need to bring a song in; they don’t need to bring anything. It does not cost anything to join. All they just need to bring their voices and be disciplined in the things they love. They will be judged on their stage presence intonation and vocal ability.
I will be training them as we go along. I have their first concert set for December so it’s really going to happen; it’s not going to fall through. I’ll be training them every Wednesday. Practices are here from four thirty to six. I’ll be getting them to sing properly, then I’ll get them ready for their Christmas Concert.”
Children wishing to try out for the choir do not need musical experience. For more information call the National Arts Council at 72110.
