Couple Charged for Firearm Offences, Anthony Wagner is Remanded

This morning, a couple appeared before Chief Magistrate Sharon Frazer where they were arraigned for three counts of kept firearm and ammunitions with a gun license and two counts of drug-related offenses. Traffic warden Anthony Wagner and his common-law wife, Vanessa Moreira, were at their Hondo Street home when police conducted a search on December twenty-seventh that yielded two firearms, two magazines, several rounds of ammunition and weed. When the couple appeared before Chief Magistrate Frazer this morning, with their attorney OJ Elrington, they pleaded not guilty to all charges, but due to the nature of the offense, bail was denied and they were remanded to the Belize Central Prison until February twenty-eighth, 2023. Fortunately for them, their attorney was able to get their bail application filed by two o’clock this afternoon and the bail application was heard by Justice Ricardo O’Neil Sandcroft, who by the close of the day, was only able to offer bail to Moreira in the sum of twenty-five thousand dollars, or five sureties of five thousand dollars each. Moreira’s bail was granted with stringent conditions in which Justice Sandcroft has ordered her to check in daily at the Racoon Street Police Station; she was also placed on curfew and must be indoors between the hours of eight p.m. and seven a.m. She must also move in with her mother until her case is disposed of. The bail application for Wagner will continue next week Tuesday, January third, 2023 due to a delay with the officer who the judge summoned to appear in court to answer a few questions concerning the case against Wagner. The couple is to reappear in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on February twenty-eighth, 2023.
