Welcome to Recinos Wine House, nestled in the hills of San Ignacio Town. Stepping into this establishment is entering a world of wines and spirits with over three hundred selections from across the world to choose from. To ring in the New Year, a bottle of champagne or sparkling wine from Recinos’ showroom is the drink of choice.

Jesus Mas, Wine Connoisseur

“Many of time we have a lot of people walk into the shop and they want a bottle of champagne. WE do have bottles of champagne. A bottle of champagne goes anywhere from two hundred to five, four, six hundred, or whatever, but we also have Proseccos which are bubbly. So, my question I ask them is you want champagne or you want something bubbly, because we have Proseccos which are made in Italy. Champagne is a region in France and it had to be made in that region for it to be called champagne.”

Jesus Mas has been a wine and spirits connoisseur at Recinos Wine House for the past four years. And, during that time Mas has received diplomats, government officials, and the common man looking for the most exquisite experience in wines and spirits. His experience is that after a long day at work most Belizeans simply desire to unwind with a bottle of wine around friends and family. For Mas, the world of wine is an adventure.

“We could talk about the world of wine and talk about wines for hours. Here at Recinos we have over three hundred to three hundred and fifty labels, wines from all over the world, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Italy, France, Germany, a little bit of everything for everybody. We have the sweet wines, the light young ones, full bodies, we have our reserves, a little bit of everything. Because, new years is close, it is something fih talk about. Everybody the buy for a gift or to gear up fih pop dah bottle for New Years, our sparkling wine or champagne.”

Options are available for every budget, from bottles for as low as twenty dollars to selections with hefty price tags ranging between nine hundred to a thousand dollars. This bottle of Prosseco is an extra dry sparkling wine best served chilled. And today, we got a chance to taste test.

The fruitiness of this bottle of Prosecco introduces a burst of flavors to the pallet. It is perfect for the dry to semi-dry wine lover.

“Usually around this time, Christmas, New Years, champagne dah wah festive bottle. When you pop a nice bottle of champagne you are really celebrating. Maybe you had some big deal that you made, you bought a house, you buy champagne, it’s your birthday, you get it for breakfast. Some people drink it for breakfast. I nuh wah mention names.”

Jesus Mas

“Yes, or just grapes for breakfast.”

Recinos Wine House is not only about its beverages. Customers also visit the location because of its ambience and warm service, which makes every customer feel like a V.I.P. And of course, the food, any wine experience is not complete without a delicious meal. Today, the chef cooked us up a hefty portion of pork chops and a serving of shrimp pasta.

Jesus Mas

“This all started as a showroom at the very beginning and even up to now. It is a show room at the same time but you could also get food. So, now we have food, the waiters and the wine are chilled already. But, it started as a showroom pretty much.”
