Man electrocuted at Ladyville shrimp farm
One man is dead and another has been injured in a freak accident in Ladyville. On Tuesday afternoon Wilfred Aranda and Omar Acosta, both employees of Caribbean Shrimp Limited, were repairing a machine which generates air bubbles for the shrimp ponds. At the time, according to the company’s owner, Charles Mackintosh, B.E.L. had turned off the farm’s power to do some work on a nearby transformer. Unfortunately Aranda and Acosta failed to turn off the main switch and fifteen minutes later B.E.L. restored the current. Aranda received a severe jolt and sustained serious burns before falling into the pond. He was rushed to the hospital at Airport Camp but died twenty minutes later. Acosta suffered lesser injuries and was treated and released from Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
