Police Department Says “Thank You” To Partners against Crime
As we reported on Thursday, the murder count is significantly lower for 2022 than it was for 2021. Some might argue that this is clearly because the violent gang warfare has waned over the past several weeks. Still others will point to why gang flare-ups have taken a lull lately. And whether you link them to each other or not, today, the Belize Police Department held a brief ceremony to hand out “thank you” certificates to over a dozen community leaders and to the Belize City Mayor for partnering up with the department to fight collectively against the crime scourge. Deputy Commissioner of the department, Doctor Richard Rosado said they have come to the realization that it will take more than the police to effectively address crime, so they consciously went about forging partnerships.
Dr. Richard Rosado, Deputy Commissioner of Police
“We have community leaders, community councils that have been formed within the different communities that are helping us to change the mindset of the criminal-minded individual. And they are assisting us tremendously in addressing crime. And we saw today just as a way of saying, “thank you” and asking them for 2023, let us continue to collaborate. My minister, Minister Musa, has been persistent in his direction to the police department: that we must change course, and we must embrace a new strategic direction.”
