Concerns Raised Over How First Responders Shuttled Victim to Polyclinic

Chester Williams

During the efforts of first responders to offer assistance to Bowens, she was picked up and placed in the back of a truck to be taken to the polyclinic. Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams said the decision was taken in the interest of offering urgent medical attention. But he also chided the media for posting the images that were taken.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“They were trying to give her medical. I asked the question because when I saw the images I was disturbed by it. So I asked the question of the police why was it not that she was placed in the vehicle they took off with her to the hospital, but like you said, they were trying to give her urgent treatment. And while the family did consent for that, they never consented for their daughter to be exposed to the public the way the media caused her to be exposed. Man, da wa young lady man. We should have more empathy towards females and to see that the media houses are so quick to put her picture out there in that condition, it speaks volumes of us as a society.”
