Shyne Admits to Falling Short on N.P.C. Offensive

Shyne Barrow

According to Barrow, he should have done more to convince the National Party Council that John Saldivar was not suitable to run for any political office under the United Democratic Party.

“Well, definitely there was a failure in my ability to get the NPC to say emphatically that Mr. Saldivar was not good for the party.  I think he relied on sympathy and he actually used the converse of what you are saying that, “This is not me against the party leader, this is just me wanting the people of Belmopan to decide.  This is just me wanting justice.  I have nothing against the party leader.”  And there are colleagues that genuinely could not see the bigger picture or refused to see the bigger picture as to how this impacted the party and personalized it and made it, “Oh, you know, let the people in Belmopan decide.”  Again, I am bounded by the decision of the NPC so I have to be careful.  I don’t want to be like some of my other colleagues that will criticize the party, but I take full responsibility for not doing enough.  I took for granted how obvious it was that Mr. Saldivar needed to go, no matter your personal relationship with him, no matter your sympathy for him.”
