BNTU President: Temporary Class Closure Won’t Affect Students Negatively

But the road condition’s interruption of classes for these past two days will not require teachers to make up for lost time with the students of Trio Village. President of the Belize National Teachers Union, Senator Elena Smith told News Five today that the time can be recovered during the normal course of the semester.

“A lot o time these teachers do these morning classes or evening classes where they help the children anyway, so for me, I don’t see where there would be an issue where there would have to be an enforcement of any make-up time for the two days that we lost. I’m sure that that ministry is swamped with all the areas that need fixed but because of the quarries we have to pay attention and see how we can maybe get those persons who use – those companies who use that road constantly – to assist with some of these repairs as well because if the repairs are done as the roads are being damaged, then it may not get to this point. I think it’s a matter of not just the ministry but also those companies that make use of that road that should be assisting with that as well because at the end of the day, it’s our students who need up suffering.”
