Rado Says Sports Facilities is an Expensive Venture
On Tuesday, we showed you the images on the progress at the Berger Field and Prime Minister John Briceño making a statement that the government would like to see more facilities like that installed across the country. Today, when News Five caught up with Minister of Sports Rodwell Ferguson, he says that the venture would be an expensive one.
Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Sports
“It’s a very expensive venture. That project at Berger Field would be costing almost half a million Belize dollars, because just to put on a synthetic field comes with a cost. That was a partnership between the Ministry of Tourism and the Minister Anthony Mahler, the Department of Sports and the F.F.B., so each department contribute one-third. So it is almost time for completion; that will be a benefit for the people of south side in particular. I recognise that facilities across country need quick attention, but you must recognise that we are a very small government and people expect it to happen overnight. And so just last two weeks, I sanctioned a guy in my ministry who has the capability to write proposals and say get me at least some concept paper that I can go to different embassies across the country and organizations across the world to see if they want to sponsor and support these facilities. So I am hopefully that within another couple of months, we receive some kind of thing happening with them.”
