Two Men Sentenced for Murder of Belize City Businessman, Oscar Rosado

Two men convicted of the April 2018 murder of Belize City businessman, Oscar Rosado, Senior, were sentenced today in the Belize City Supreme Court. Brandon Hughes received a life sentence for the crime, while Jose Gomez was sentenced to twelve years imprisonment. Hughes will be eligible for parole after serving thirty years and Gomez will be eligible after serving eight years. In handing down the sentences, Justice Susan Lamb deducted four years, seven months and eighteen days that Hughes has already served on remand, leaving him with twenty-five years, four months and twelve days before he can seek parole. The judge also deducted Gomez’ three-year-five-month period on remand, leaving him with four years seven months before he can get parole. Justice Lamb noted that Hughes was the gunman who fatally shot and killed the seventy-five-year-old businessman inside his Cemetery Road hardware store in the presence of his wife. She also noted that while Gomez was not the shooter, he stood there and did nothing to help the victim. Today, the two men were escorted to court under heavy police guard by officers of the G-I3 team. They were convicted of the murder on December 9, 2022.
