Road Works in Toledo to Be Completed Shortly
This week, the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing had to scramble to repair the access road to Trio Village so that the bus could take the teachers in for the reopening of classes for 2023. The condition of that road, along with several others in Toledo, have been deteriorating over the past several months due to constant wear and tear by heavy-duty trucks transporting crops and gravel to and from their respective destinations. The rains that came during that time have made it all the worse. But now ongoing repairs and resurfacing are taking place, according to Chief Engineer in the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing, Lennox Bradley and the works will be completed in those other areas as the weather holds up.

“We had three point five million (dollars) committed and those went out into contracts. We have about six contractors out there from, I would say around September or thereabouts. I think it’s from then that we have had contractors out there trying to do the best within the limited dry spells that we have during the rainy season. As you’re aware, in PG – Toledo District, the dry season is from the latter part of January to May. Now we are noticing with climate change, even January, we’re already approaching mid-January and it’s still raining. But it’s the dry season that we’ll have to maximize, so those eleven roads – while the strategy has been for the Ministry to try to keep them accessible to the motoring public, the contracts have still not been fully completed yet because of the weather conditions.”
