Coming Soon; Traffic Lights At St. Thomas/St. Joseph Street Intersection
If you’ve been wondering why a section of Saint Thomas Street, at its junction with Saint Joseph Street, has been closed to vehicular traffic, it’s all geared toward making the area safer for the pedestrians who use it, particularly during school hours. Today Belize City Mayor, Bernard Wagner says the inconvenience will last another few weeks while some infrastructural upgrades are made, and coupled with it are traffic lights.

“We do have plans to install traffic lights in that hotspot area – St Thomas Street and St Joseph’s Street intersection there. It has become unsafe for pedestrians and especially our children and the amount of people who traverse that area. So we wanted to ensure that the immediate area where the traffic lights will be installed – that intersection there – is concreted, so we’ve started that process. I believe it’s supposed to reopen back in the first week in February, the sixth of February.”
