“Citizens Shouldn’t Fear Law Enforcement” – Shyne Barrow

Shyne Barrow

The leader of the United Democratic Party also spoke about the need for citizen security in the wake of Saturday’s incident, in the context of what appears to be a growing apprehension towards members of law enforcement.

Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition

“We have to send a message, to the country, to the rank and file, that those days are over.  Bad actors within the department, within government will no longer be tolerated.  I am here for it, wherever it leads. Citizens of this country should not live in fear of law enforcement.  It is enough that we have a crime problem, but if the law enforcement are now the criminals, brazen because, and that is one of the reasons I have been bringing up his name, that is one of the reasons the opposition calls for witness protection because we are afraid, I am afraid of the powers that these people think they have and I am concerned that the Minister of Police doesn’t have the stomach to do what it is he said he would do because this is not for the faint [of] heart. Kareem Musa is the minister.  So, Mr. Minister, what are you going to do about this situation which many people anticipated.  It was reported that the reason the Ramnarace were executed is because they were witnesses in the Michael Williams execution.  I still haven’t gotten a charge for Michael Williams. We need action.”
