Fisherman stabbed in San Pedro robbery

San Pedro police have arrested two Honduran nationals in connection with a stabbing incident that took place on the island last Thursday. Police say that shortly after two Thursday morning, thirty nine year old Eulogio Nuñez, was driving a taxi down Coconut Drive when he was attacked by two passengers who stabbed him several times, and then stole his gold chain as well as one thousand dollars in U.S. currency. The three men had apparently been drinking together earlier that night. Police investigations led them to the San Juan area of the town where they arrested twenty-eight year old mechanic Marlon Canelas, and twenty-seven year old laborer Giovanni Fuentes. While Canelas’ arrest went without incident, the police say when they approached Fuentes, he attempted to jump over a zinc fence, but was quickly apprehended after receiving a bad cut on his hand from the sharp metal. Nuñez has been hospitalized in Chetumal for his injuries. Meanwhile both Caneles and Fuentes have been charged with robbery, conspiracy and grievous harm.
