Mahogany Street Sees Phase II of Resurfacing Project
Mahogany Street is getting the second phase of resurfacing, several months after the first phase was completed in April 2022. This phase complements the initial works that were completed near the newly constructed food stalls. Today, Deputy Mayor Allan Pollard, who holds the portfolio for infrastructure, explained that that portion of the street will be closed for about two weeks for the upgrade.

“It’s our part of the commitment with the collaboration between the Minister of Tourism and the Tourism Board of turning this into a tourism corridor for food. So that is what we’re doing here. Our commitment is to have the infrastructure up to par, which is an excellent addition to what we’re seeing here with the booths. We just recently did St Thomas. That lasted about two weeks. Same thing applies here. The hardest part for us is the curing process because the concrete has to cure before vehicles could get on it. What had us in a little delay was to get the infrastructure underneath upgraded, which was with Belize Water Services. They had to upgrade some piping and of course make sure that these booths had the water systems in place.”

“I know that sometimes Belize Water Services needs to get beneath the surface for whatever repairs or new installations that they need to conduct. Do you have good coordination with them so that we don’t have wastage and as soon as you pave or cement a road, they come and they need to dig it up.”

“Yeah, we have excellent coordination with them. I actually serve on the board there so that helps us with the communication a lot. Actually, before we go into any area, we have to submit our work to them to see if they need to upgrade anything within the area. A lot of times they have already upgraded, so we just have to go in and do our thing. So I could assure you that after we done fix, nothing nuh wa get bruk up and then we have to do dah process deh over again.”
