And, according to C.E.O. Shal, to address the concerns of both the Succotz Village Council and the Benque Viejo Town Council, it was decided that the proposed Benque boundary lines will be taken back to the drawing board. He noted that a meeting to review and come to an agreement on a new map is yet to take place.

Valentino Shal, C.E.O., Ministry of Local Government

“For most of the municipalities that are involved in this exercise, we haven’t had any issues. I think you could say that some people may have jumped the gun in the case of Benque and Succotz. But, for our process, we have held meetings as you saw in our press release between the councils and leaders of these two communities, between Succotz and Benque and the last one was in December, just before Christmas and they had discussed where the lines would be and agreed that the Ministry of Natural Resources will go back and bring back a new map. That meeting has not been held as yet because ministry of Natural Resources has not produced the maps as yet given the holidays. But that might soon be. So, we will call them back again and see if what was discussed in December is what is represented in the map.”
