Did Chinese Nationals Attempt to Enter Belize with Irregular Belizean Permanent Residency Documents?
And, police is preparing to launch an investigation into happenings at the Immigration Department, following reports that at least nine Chinese nationals recently entered the country with Belizean documents that displayed a number of irregularities. We heard from both the Minister of Home Affairs and the Commissioner of Police on this matter.
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs
“I am not aware of that but if there is I am certain that we would have a report on that. If police was called in it would be because the Immigration Department recognize the irregularities and call in the police to enforce. That is not something that crosses the police desk, aside from enforcement. So, I would have to get more information on those nine individuals if it is they had illegal or regular permanent residents, so I would have to get that information.”
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“I know that I got a call last week from the director of immigration herself and she gave me certain information in respect to certain persons that had come into the country and their visa may have not been, appeared to be genuine. So, based on that, I sent over one of our senior investigators to meet with the director of immigration. They did meet and I think we are at the stage where the director is trying to put together all the documents from within immigration. Once all those documents and reports are compiled then the investigation will be turned over to police for us to conduct that investigation.”
