St. Michaels holds Valentine’s concert to raise funds

Story PictureWant to share love this Valentine’s day? Tonight students from St. Michael’s College are giving you the opportunity to do just that at a dance and concert. The high school, which is experiencing financial problems, specifically with school supplies, is hosting a valentine’s extravaganza to much needed raise funds. During the event entitled, ‘Share D Luv’, students will perform and showcase their varied talents. Coordinator, Myra Arzu, spoke to News Five of the institution’s challenges and explained how tonight’s concert can help to ease the pain.

Myra Arzu, Teacher and Coordinator
“Right now our school, we are going through a financial strain. We have a large amount of money that is not paid in terms of fees so we have basic needs like papers, simple tapes, and markers and things that sometimes we are struggling to produce. For our teachers to produce, they need their sources, they need materials so with this we hope that we can provide some of those materials for teachers.”

“I got students from Sadie Vernon and we have students from St. Michael’s who will be performing on stage tonight. So it will be like a dance and concert. That will be the phase of that event that everybody is looking out for, the concert. And one good thing about it is that sometimes we don’t recognize the talent of our teens and we don’t have to get anybody from outside to come and give us a show. Our own children here can perform for their peers.”

“What kind of performances will these students be performing?”

Myra Arzu
“We have students who will sing, we have students who will dance and that will be right here tonight right at the St. Michael’s Compound. You can’t miss this, you must be there to see this. I know many times we complain that the young people are not doing anything but we do not create activities for them to do and I think this is one positive measure to have them to do something that is positive in their lives.”

“Who are the ones that you are targeting with this? Is it only students that will be entering this and what’s the cost?”

Myra Arzu
“We’re not only targeting students we are targeting young people in general and you know we want other people to see what other young people have display. If you have a ticket you will pay five dollars but at the door your going to pay seven.”

‘Share D Luv’ starts at seven o’clock. Entrance at the door is seven dollars.
