UNICEF’S Work in Belize Continues in Five Critical Areas
But aside from the assistance that UNICEF provides for migrant hubs and the communities where irregular migrants make their home, the organization has been investing in key areas in other vulnerable communities where violence is prevalent. “Our child-protection program also looks at the issue of violence-prevention, which as you all know, is a very topical issue right now with young people being at the centre of it all. So, a huge part of our investments and our programs this year is going to be looking at how do we come together as various partners in addressing violence in a community especially with young people. That’s a critical a part that we are launching into and we are going to continue to talk to young people to talk to parents, seeing that the home is a fundamental part of that, so being able to talk to parents, and understand what are the challenges facing new parents, young parents, single mothers, single fathers, and engaging with them and get them to understand so that they can address and hopefully break the vicious cycle of violence.”
