Man wanted for sexual assault of minor

Story Picture
It is a story that has the basic elements to fit neatly into a made for television movie of the week. But instead of a Hollywood production studio, the sickening scene was played out in a Belize City hotel room and the principal actors are as Belizean as rice and beans. Nineteen year old Jose Matus and twenty-seven year old Delvith Retreage have been implicated in an incident on Tuesday in which a teenage girl was the alleged victim of a sexual assault. Officer in charge of C.I.B. Simeon Alvarez tells us what the police investigation has come up with so far.

A.I.P. Simeon Alvarez, Head of C.I.B.

“On the twenty-third of June the family for a thirteen year old minor came to the C.I.B. office and made a report stating that the minor was sexually assaulted. As a result of this the police conducted an investigation which led us to a hotel in the King’s Park area. At this hotel, room number 14, in the presence of the proprietor, was checked and from this room we found out that the suspect was one Delvith Retreage. Investigations further indicated that one Jose Matus, who was along with Retreage took this thirteen year old minor along with a friend who was another minor, fifteen years old from Buttonwood Bay, to this hotel. At this hotel the fellow Retreage had sexual intercourse with this minor while her friend waited for her. Further in the investigation it is also shown that they were taken to this location in a small white car owned by Jose Matus marked “Girls Wanted”.”

Nineteen year old Jose Matus was arrested and charged with the crime of indecent assault for soliciting sex from the thirteen year old girl, while twenty-seven year old Delvith Retreage, a recent deportee from the United States, is wanted on a charge of carnal knowledge. Police say that when they searched Retreage’s room at the Three Star Hotel they found a number of ammunition including point twenty-five and point twenty-two rounds. Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Delvith Retreage is asked to contact the nearest police station.
