Akeem Augustine’s Family is Confident in Identity of Dismembered Body

Akeem Augustine

On Friday, we reported on the discovery of a dismembered body in the vicinity of Jane Usher Boulevard. Tonight, the family of a missing Belize City resident has come forward to say that they have positively identified the remains. Earlier today, News Five spoke with the family of Akeem Augustine who went missing on Christmas Day. According to relatives, the torso found floating in a swampy area not far from Mud Street is that of Augustine. It is a puzzling revelation, because the remains that police discovered on Friday had only recently began to decompose.  Augustine had been reported missing more than a month before. Family members, however, are confident that what police discovered on Friday are his remains.  We begin our newscast with a word from Augustine’s relatives.

Voice of: Relative of Akeem Augustine

“Well we could positively identify that it was Akeem Augustine that went missing from Christmas Day. I can assure you guys that he just died, because his tattoo is visible and for someone who had died over a month, there would be no flesh, no remains. So, in regards to the police and the system, I think, well I nuh think I know, they fail this family because of the way he lived. Because, he dah wah street figure and I believe deh neva the do deh duty. If anybody comes ask me how I feel about the police, I say they fail, because with the credible information they gave the police they could have had him saved or have him whole. They never would have got him three quarter, because no head, no limbs were on him. With the missing from the twenty-fifth and the way how they find the body with flesh and tattoos and everything, that gives me the indication that he just dead. And, this dah the thing weh hurt because we deh pant he police trail long time, because we make the report the twenty-sixth and we did go again and check with the police. They come the day before the body found they come and said they had been pursuing the case to no avail. The following day they find the body floating.”
