Man charged with Attempted Murder for Sarstoon St. shooting
In other court news, twenty-four year old Jaret Jerry Jones will be on remand until March thirty-first. That is because Jones, an unemployed of a Mahogany Street address, was charged with Attempted Murder of Marvin Underwood along with charges of Wounding and Use of Deadly Means of Harm. In court this morning, Magistrate Sharon Fraser explained to him that the court cannot offer him bail for the offences, which occurred on February third, because of a recent amendment to the crime control and criminal justice Act. Underwood, an employee of BWEL located on Sarstoon Street, reported to the police that he was riding his bicycle on his way to work and when he reached the corner of Sarstoon and Mahogany Streets, he saw Jones standing by the side of the road. Underwood said that as he drew closer, he saw Jones take out a silver color pistol from the right pocket of his pants and pointed it at him. Underwood said Jones fired five shots and one of the bullets struck him on the right side of the neck. He jumped off his bicycle and he ran into a yard nearby to escape further injury. Underwood was taken to Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where the doctor who examined him classified his injury as wounding.
