Belmopan Rep, Oscar Mira Weighs in on U.D.P. Convention Results
And what does the current Belmopan representative, P.U.P’s Oscar Mira, think of Sunday’s convention? Mira says he’s looking ahead to the next general election, but he and his team will analyze the results. Here’s what he had to say about Sunday’s turnout at the U.D.P. convention
Oscar Mira, Area Representative, Belmopan
“The amount of people that went out for the convention, we can look at it. John Saldivar got about nine percent of the electorate – not significant enough, probably about nineteen percent more or less went to vote. We are meeting, we’re strategizing. I have never ever underestimated my opponent, and I have won my first election. I didn’t win by a small margin. It was a very large margin. I doubled the votes for him. So, I think that we’re in good standing in Belmopan. I work. It’s showing and I believe that the people of Belmopan are appreciative and they believe in me.”

“There’s been a little murmur that you had a silent hand in the results yesterday.”
Oscar Mira
“No, I will say here categorically that I had nothing to do with the U.D.P Convention in Belmopan. It’s a U.D.P convention. Let them battle out themselves. I was shown clips of a certain candidate making allegations. I have sent that clip to my attorney for him to take a look at because I had nothing to do with – I had no horse in that race. That is a U.D.P. convention.”
Mira defeated Saldivar in the 2020 general elections by over two thousand votes.
