Parent of Canaan Student Calls Out B.N.T.U. President
Today, the father of the female student from Canaan High School sent our newsroom a voice note responding to the comments of the B.N.T.U. President. In his response, he called on Smith to correct her statement if the union is truly in support of the parent and student.

“At the end of the day I am not interested in what the president of the teachers union or what have you has to say. There are governed by the laws outlined to them by the Ministry of Education and the Belize government. So, at the end of the day whether they are a union or not, they need to adhere to those laws as mandated, period. She should know what her rules are and so should every principal, teacher, what have you. It is my civic duty and my job as a parent to light fires and create as much noise as I can ion this issue. So, they need to correct that statement. If they are truly an ally of the parent, student, they need to correct statement, point blank. I understand they are a union and they try to save face. I understand this hurts their ability to negotiate, bargain, with the Ministry of Education, government, but that is not my problem. That is not what this issue is about, it is not about saving face.”
