Elderly Man Robbed While Being Kind

An elderly man was robbed of over six hundred dollars when he attempted to make a kind gesture. According to Aubrey Dale Garbutt, he was at home alone when a man he said was known to him stopped by to visit. The man then asked for some water and to use the bathroom, and when he came out, he attacked the older man, took away his wallet, stole his cash, and then escaped. Garbutt then reported to the police, leading to the arrest of 40year old Leo Grant. Grant was arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today on a single charge of robbery. Grant, who was unrepresented, appeared before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford, where he pleaded not guilty to the robbery charge. In court, no plea was taken from Grant, bail was denied, and he was remanded to the Belize Central Prison. The incident occurred on July 21, 2022.
