Tourism figures up for 1st quarter
The Belize Tourist Board is happily reporting a healthy increase in tourist arrivals. They quote airport statistics showing that the number of tourists arriving during the first three months of the year — the heart of the season — increased by ten point six five percent over the similar period in 1997 to thirty one thousand, six hundred and sixteen. Hotel room revenue also increased, according to B.T.B. figures, by almost nine percent over 1997. The numbers include airport arrivals only, not road or sea, and do not include business travelers or returning Belizeans.
