Brodies suspects charged in court
In other crime news, eight Belize City men ranging in ages from eighteen to twenty nine, were marched to Magistrates court this afternoon to answer to a book of charges in connection with the theft of firearms and ammunition from the Brodies warehouse. Jiovanni Lauriano, Byron Gillett, Deon Burns, Jason King, Leslie Williams, Herman Flowers, Cedric Avilez and Cypriano Caliz were charged with twenty counts of unlicensed firearms, three counts of illegal ammunition, robbery, handling stolen goods, aggravated assault and burglary, damage to property and conspiracy.
According to the head of C.I.B. Simeon Alvarez, the May thirtieth burglary was the brainchild of nineteen-year-old Jason King an employee of Brodies. Statements given to police by the accused indicate that originally they were after money, but could not break open the vault. The burglary should have been carried out before Easter, but had to be put on hold as the they could not acquire the necessary equipment. Nineteen year old Herman Flowers, a welder with Batty’s Bus has been fingered by his colleagues as the man who attempted to blowtorch open the iron vault door. Three other young men, nineteen year old Troy Card, twenty four year old Tyrone Augustine and Twenty five year old Kelvin Francis were charged last week in connection with the Brodies burglary. Although they were not part of the original team of burglars, police have amended the charges to make them as liable as those who were charged this afternoon.
