B.N.B.A. prepares for CARICOM Championships

Story Picture
On yesterday’s newscast we reported on a new court being laid down at City Centre just in time for the CARICOM Basketball Championships. Today the B.N.B.A. called journalists together for an update on the big event.

The competition, which starts on June eighteenth at the Belize City Centre, features six female and male teams from Bahamas, Barbados, Jamaica, Guyana, Antigua and of course, Belize. But with only two weeks left to tip-off, the biggest concern raised at a Belize National Basketball Association press conference this afternoon was: Where is our male team?

Paul Flowers, Public Relations

“The Belize national male team is definitely ready; we have the best players in the world who are born in Belize, who are en route to Belize, some of which are in Belize. They are N.C.A.A. division one players. They are talented and in very good shape and we have good local talent. They are working hard and they will be under the watchful eye of David Greenwood who has thirteen years experience.”

Although it will not be until June ninth before the final male team is announced, the national female team, now known as the C.T.C. Felines, is well underway with their training.

Shelmadine Cacho, Player, National Female Team

“Our coaching staff has executed a number of plays and starting today we are going to run them extensively.”

Although there is no confirmation as to whether or not the Trinidadian national teams will be able to make it, the other competitors will be making their way to Belize on June eighteenth. Arreini Palacio for News Five.

The prices of tickets for the CARICOM Championships were also announced today. For night games, reserved tickets are twenty-five dollars, unreserved go for fifteen. During the day unreserved seats are priced at ten dollars, while reserved remain at twenty-five. Kids get in for five dollars except on opening night when they will have to pay ten.
