3 Honda Motorcycles for Boom, Bermudian Landing

Today, the Burrell Boom Village Council in partnership with RodLa Construction Company Limited and Belize Rural North area representative Marconi Leal Senior handed over three Honda motorcycles to the Belize Police Department for patrols in the Burrell Boom and Bermudian Landing villages. Burrell Boom has been expanding over the years and, according to Chairman Anslem Gillett, now includes the Blackberry Ridge community. But the village has been experiencing an increase in property crimes. So the donation today is to help with curbing these crimes.

“I reached out to the community, friends of mine and they responded. They saw the need also. RodLa Construction gave us two motorcycles – well one for Bermudian Landing and one for Burrell Room – and then my company and the area rep donated the other motorcycle. Burrell Boom is really growing; now we have Blackberry Ridge as a new subdivision there; we have Fresh Pond. My company also has a subdivision so Burrell Boom is really growing. We are almost all the way up to prison now. So the motorcycles will really assist the community because these police have to be all over the place. It’s not like before when Burrell Boom was really small. With these kinds of motorcycles they can cut around really fast to respond until the backup come up.”

“Has Burrell Boom been having issues with crime?”

Anslem Gillett

“Yes. Recently I must say that we’ve had some breaking-ins. As a matter of fact, we are looking across the park and they stole the light off the pole. And I want to say this on the news because who is buying these things? This is for the community.”

“For far too long the Burrell Boom and the Bermudian Landing have been struggling in terms of them having police mobility to serve the public the way we’d like to serve them. And getting this donation today certainly would go a long way in making the police in this area more effective and efficient in the service that these deliver to the people of these different communities.”
