P.M. Announces a New Three-day Budget Debate Schedule
The presentation of the General Revenue Appropriations Bill for the fiscal year 2023/2024 will be made in the House of Representatives on March tenth. Thereafter, parliament will meet to debate the annual budget in a three-day session, a departure from the usual Thursday/Friday meeting. According to Prime Minister John Briceño, extending the number of days for the budget debate will allow for all ministers to be able to discuss the achievements of their respective ministries.
Prime Minister John Briceño
“We want to build on what we have started to build over the past two years. On Thursday, we will be doing a presentation to the Cabinet about the budget and the actual numbers and what the priorities are, of course, in our Capital 2 and Capital 3 sections of the budget and we are continuing to invest in infrastructure and housing which is important, education and health. These are the priorities of the government and we want to continue to build on what we have started and to be able to leverage what we have and to create even more opportunities for our people. We plan to present the budget, I think it is on the tenth of March which is on a Friday, and yesterday I discussed with the cabinet that for the first time we are planning, instead of having two days of intense budget debate, we want to have three days of debate, starting on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, so that everybody would have enough time to be able to talk.”
