Ministry of Labour Launches Education Tour on Child Labour Policy Implementation
Last Wednesday, the Ministry of Labour kicked off the implementation of its Child Labour Education tour in Chunox, Sarteneja, Progresso and Copper Bank villages in the Corozal District. In these communities, the village council chairpersons, teachers, principals, farmers, parents and students all participated in sessions designed to advocate for and protect children’s rights. The meetings are also created to foster collaboration with the private sector and other organizations in implementation of the Belize’s National Child Labour Policy and Strategy 2022-2025. The Ministry of Labour expects that through these sessions the employment of children in certain occupations will be prohibited and that the working conditions of children in other occupations will be regulated. Furthermore, one objective is to have the worst forms of child labour in Belize eradicated by 2025. Sessions are scheduled to be held nationwide for the sugar, banana and citrus industries and other agro-industry stakeholders.
