All Saints student tops B.N.S.E.

For over five thousand candidates who sat the Belize National Selection Examination, judgement day has come. The results for the exam, which was held on May fourth, were announced today by the Ministry of Education and there is at least one child who is sleeping much better tonight. The Michael and Jane Nembhard Award for the highest ranking score has gone to Christopher DeShield of All Saint’s Primary School. According to Christopher, the B.N.S.E. was no easy task.

“I always studied. When we went to school we reviewed everything over for like two weeks.”

Q: “What subject was the hardest?”

“Social Studies. They were tough question; it was just a few questions that were hard.”

“From when I met him in September I knew he had it. I expected him to do well. They did Math, Language, Science. Mrs. Perez and I crammed in three terms in two terms only trying to cover the syllabus.”

Christopher is the son of veterinarian Michael DeShield and his wife Miriam. The next four top scores were earned by Daniel Haughton of Belize Elementary, Darina Palacio of St. Ignatius, Dorian Enriquez of James Garbutt Seventh Day Adventist and Paul Lohr of Red Creek Mennonite School in Cayo. The B.N.S.E. is used to determine eligibility for admission to secondary school.
