Projects Underway for Previous NAPS Assessments

Hunter Hales

Hunter Hales was among the representatives from key partners who contributed to the successful proposal for this finance. While the Ministry of Economic Development is Belize’s National Designated Authority to the Green Climate Fund, partners included the Protected Areas Conservation Trust for implementation with support from the National Climate Change Office. Hales says that in total, Belize has received six million Belize dollars for this kind of support. She says that projects are already underway for other areas for which gap assessments have already been done.

“So this multisectoral NAP encompasses those five sectors, but under the NAP readiness cap of three million U.S. dollars given to us by the GCF, we’ve also started two other national adaptation plan projects; one for the fisheries and coastal sector and one for the water sector. Both of those are currently under implementation. So once those are finished and then once this multisectoral NAP is finished as well, these are all going to be sort of – not combined into one project – but they are going to be used to give a more holistic view of all the challenges that are facing these sectors and the intent to provide data-driven recommendations and how to increase our climate resiliency and our adaptation priorities in these sectors.”
