News Five wins journalism award
In a contest of a different nature we are pleased to announce that for the second consecutive year Channel Five has been named as the recipient of the prestigious Sandals Eco-journalism Award. The competition, open to all television stations and production houses in the Caribbean, and sponsored by Sandals Resorts, was won for a story we produced in January on the consequences of massive erosion of the beach in Monkey River. That story was presented by Jacqueline Woods, written by Stewart Krohn and shot and edited by Rick Romero. Accepting the award on behalf of Channel Five in Kingston, Jamaica on June fourth will be News Five commentator G. Michael Reid. It was Reid who alerted the news department to the problems in Monkey River and personally introduced our production team to key people in the village.
