B.B.A. Wants Another Meeting With Transport Officials

On the phone: Ewart Metzgen

Ewart Metzgen, the secretary for the Belize Bus Association, says the membership of the association wants its executives to meet once again with Transport officials to further discuss the way forward for an improved bus industry. He outlined a few of the things they want. And at least one of them is not up for discussion.

“The chairman needs to go. Wi nuh wa negotiate da part. The Minister mi seh if he remove the chairman that wa have political implications. But the minister must realize if ih nuh move the man from deh ih still wa have problems with the bus operators. We got a draft of the press release. We read it out to our members and we told them the other parts that they did want to include in the press release.”

“Can you share those with us? What you all agreed to that was not in the press release?”

“Well, one, the most sticking point was that they abide by the make-up, under the laws of Belize how the Transport Board is set up. And that the CEO and the Minister nuh fi di sit down eena no Transport Board meeting. In principal, the Minister said that they won’t go into any of the meetings unless called upon. So we told them that needed to be in a press release also.”

“But they refused to put it in. We have quite a few suggestions from our operators on how we can get this thing sorted out, so those are what we want to take back to them on behalf of our operators.”
