A Deadly Stabbing on La Isla Bonita, Elder Arana Loses His Life

A bar fight in the early hours of Sunday has left one man dead after he was stabbed multiple times by an individual whom witnesses say was visibly intoxicated inside Jeemar’s Nightclub. The incident happened in the San Pedrito community and today, thirty-two-year-old Alvaro Tun was arraigned for murder. News Five’s Isani Cayetano was in San Pedro this morning and filed the following report.

A deadly stabbing outside of a nightclub in the San Pedrito area of San Pedro has left the Arana family grief-stricken as their loved one lost his life during an altercation with other patrons of the establishment over the extended weekend. Twenty-nine-year-old Elder Arana relocated to the island two years ago and was described by his sister as a homebody.

“My brother doesn’t really go out, but that night they called him to go at that spot. When he reached, that was when everything started.”
What erupted inside the bar in the wee small hours on Sunday morning was a physical altercation during which Arana was reportedly choked by an individual and attacked by three others. The fracas spilled out into the street where Arana was fatally stabbed.

“Police responded to a brawl in the San Pedrito area of San Pedro Town, in front of a nightclub where three men were seen fleeing from the scene. A man identified to police as Alvaro Tun was pointed out by bystanders as one of the persons involved in the brawl. A person, later identified as Elder Arana twenty-nine years old, was said to have been transported to the San Pedro Polyclinic. Upon arriving there, police saw him receiving treatment for several stab wounds. Sometime after that, around two a.m., Mr. Arana was pronounced dead by a medical officer.”
According to Michelle Arana, her sibling may not have been familiar with the men who attacked him.

“My brother don’t know them. He, like I said before, he doesn’t go out. He doesn’t have that much friends [on] this island.”

“So would simply say that perhaps it was just a bar fight that got out of hand?”

“Well, yeah. I guess, because people are saying that it was a set up.”
But why would Arana have been lured to the establishment?

“From witnesses, we have gathered that they were socializing at the nightclub when Mr. Arana exited the nightclub, he was attacked by Mr. Tun, who, it is believed, inflicted these stab wounds to Mr. Arana. The motive has not yet been ascertained, but it is clearly a one-on-one attack.”

“People tried to help him to come back but he was bleeding so much so probably he was going to die.

“Police immediately launched an investigation. They interviewed several persons that were in the area and I know that they gathered enough evidence to charge Mr. Tun for the murder that was committed on Sunday.”
Outside of the San Pedro Police Station this morning, the family of the accused killer consoled the heartbroken mother of the deceased victim. Isani Cayetano for News Five.
