Moses “Shyne” Barrow Hope of Becoming Belize’s Next Prime Minister Lives
Moses “Shyne” Barrow will lead the United Democratic Party into the next general elections. That is, at least for now, the understanding he has been able to reach with the members of his party, including John Saldivar’s Caucus for Change. While a U.D.P. leadership convention was scheduled to take place in the coming months, the party has agreed to forgo that convention so that it can focus on more important matters like becoming a viable opposition. We asked Barrow about this latest development.
Moses “Shyne” Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
“I have been able to come to terms with the Caucus for Change as well as many other colleagues, because we have a very many new standard bearers coming in. So, I have been able to reconcile with the Caucus for Change and Mr. Saldivar and reset and get a reaffirmation of their support for my leadership going into the general elections which was always the agreement, that they would support me to become the next prime minister. So, it is just a matter of formalizing that in the next National Party Council that we have. The numbers indicate that it will be an almost unanimous vote to do so. That is definitely a welcomed development. I know that many of the detractors and sensationalist in the media houses and the political opposition had hoped that the UDP would continue in division and chaos. That is certainly not the case. We have set aside personal grievances to focus on our obligation, which is to be the best opposition possible and the best alternative government.”
