Opposition Leader Says Health Budget Should Take Priority in General Revenue Appropriation Bill 2023/2024
Prime Minister John Briceño is scheduled to present the General Revenue Appropriation Bill for fiscal year 2023/2024 on Friday. P.M. Briceño is on record stating that this year’s budget will build upon his administration’s work over the past two years. It will include investments in infrastructure, health, education, and housing as areas of priority for the Government of Belize. Today when we asked Moses “Shyne” Barrow, the Leader of the Opposition, for his expectations of the budget presentation he stated that substantial increases should be made to the health budget as a top priority.
Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
“I hope that contained within the budget are substantial increases for health, because we have a health crisis. I think there needs to be an audit, some investigation for the Ministry of Health because I can tell you for the last two budgets significant amount of money would go to health, loan motions, IFI grants and all we have are disgruntled workers, medical professionals, Belizean citizens that can’t get medicine. There are no gauges to treat a womb. So, while the public health care sector needs a complete over hall, and I will be one of the first to support and I believe the party will be right next to me in supporting a better health care system for all Belizeans.”
