B.T.L. and union sign pact
Belize Telecommunications Limited and the Belize Communication Workers Union today signed a new two-year agreement. The pact, which calls for a salary hike of three percent retroactive to October first, 1997, and an additional three percent effective October first, 1998, was signed this afternoon at a ceremony at B.T.L. headquarters on St. Thomas Street. Other details of the new contract include a fifty dollar per month discount on employees’ phone bills and annual Christmas bonus of one half month’s salary. The practice of automatic salary increments has been replaced with an end of year performance bonus based on an evaluation by management. Signing on behalf of the union were President Isaac Williams, Secretary Doreen Quiros and Advisor William Tillett, while appearing for B.T.L. were Chairman Nestor Vasquez, Chief Executive Officer Ediberto Tesucum and Executive Manager of Human Resource Karen Bevans.
