Kriston Smith Charged with Burglary of Magistrate Court Building

Kriston Smith

Thirty-two-year-old Kriston Andre Smith, a former public officer, was arraigned today in connection with the burglary of the magistrate court’s building in the parking lot on Regent Street.  The burglar may have been on a spree of break-ins prior to that incident, as he also appeared before the lower court today where he was arraigned on two other counts of burglary and one count of theft.  It is alleged that on February twenty-third, Smith entered into the building as a trespasser and made off with an assortment of tools and equipment, including a Makita drill, a DeWalt drill, a welding machine and several other items, all to a total value of two thousand, two hundred and thirty dollars.  Those items are the property of Enrique Garcia.  While Smith pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him, the prosecution objected to bail.  Nonetheless, the Belama resident was granted bail in the sum of six thousand dollars, plus two sureties of three thousand dollars each.  For another incident which he has been charged for theft, Smith was again offered bail in the sum of one thousand dollars.  At the close of business today, the former public health inspector was unable to meet bail and remains in police custody.  Earlier today, ASP Fitzroy Yearwood spoke with reporters about that incident.

“We charged Kriston Smith of a Belama address. He was taken to court a little while ago to be arraigned.”

Reporter

“Is there any known reason why he did this? He is from Belama Phase Three. Is it just a crime of opportunity or was there some specific information he was looking for?”

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood

“At this moment it looks like a crime of opportunity.”
