Kareem Musa

The Briceño administration has earmarked just over ninety-seven million dollars for the Ministry of Home Affairs in its 2023 budget. In addition, monies have been allocated for the recruitment of two hundred and fifty police recruits. Minister Musa was also asked for his thoughts on the amount being set aside for policing and crime fighting in this year’s budget and how the funds will be used.  He gave us this response.

Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs

“One of the priority areas for our administration this year is citizen security. I think Cabinet has realized that there is a lot of potential in the multi-sect oral approach that we initiated over a year ago. That particular budget if I am not mistaken will be increased by two million dollars. Initially it was two point nine million dollars and that will be going up. We also have two hundred and fifty additional police officers we will be recruiting subsequent to the passing out of the current recruit squad ninety six that is at the Police Training Academy. So, there is an additional budget for two hundred and fifty more police officers to enroll this year. Additionally we are looking at the National Forensics Science Service. We recognize the importance of having a good lab for doing testing, whether it is ballistics or DNA. So, you can look forward to some very meaningful and impactful changes coming at the National Forensics Science Services.”
