Trade delegation reports on recent visit to Mexico
A group of government and private sector officials that were recently in Mexico for discussions on the Proposed Text of a trade agreement between the two countries have reported on the progress of their visit. According to the Belize Information Service, the delegation headed by Trade Minister Alfredo Martinez, told their Mexican counterparts that Belize was not yet ready to begin negotiations as such preparedness hinges on the wide consensus of the local private sector and the appointment of a competent negotiating team. B.I.S. says that the Mexican delegation indicated that while they already had their negotiating team in place, they too were required to solicit approval to proceed from the various private sector groups in their country. Both delegations agreed to stay in touch and to explore possible avenues of trade until a formal agreement between Belize and Mexico is signed, sealed and delivered.
