Minister of Home Affairs Announce Further Investments in Citizen Security
Kareem Musa, the Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries, also got his opportunity to speak today. The Caribbean Shores Area Representative announced plans for the construction of three new police stations, and the installation of CCTV surveillance cameras in several hotspot areas, including the John Smith Road.

“In keeping with our Plan Belize manifesto pledge, greater emphasis will continue to be placed on innovation and technology and this month the department will be completing the installation of thirty high definitions, face recognition, CCTV cameras in San Pedro and along the John Smith Road. Madam Speaker, the tender process has also been completed under the CABEI Program for the procurement of fifty additional CCTV cameras, which will be installed in this budget cycle. In terms of the department’s Infrastructure, under the BISP we are at the development stage at the final designs for the construction of three new police stations in Santa Elena, Caye Caulker and Belmopan, and three new substations in San Narciso, Mahogany Heights and Belize City. In November 2022, recruit squad ninety-six was enlisted at the National Police Training Academy, the injection of new blood, vision and ideas have become necessary, particularly as the department continues operations to flush out rouge, corrupt and abusive police officers who were allowed to wreak havoc for thirteen years under the U.D.P. government.”
