Teacher Manhandles Student at Canaan SDA High School
Canaan Seventh Day Adventist High School is once again in the news, following a brief video that is being circulated on social media. The clip shows a teacher manhandling a student during a physical altercation. The educator can be seen wielding what appears to be a baton of some sort. While he does not hit the student with the stick, the teacher is on camera forcefully shoving the boy out of a classroom. Earlier today, the Ministry of Education issued an official statement in respect of the incident. The release says, “the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology has been made aware of an alleged confrontation between a student and teacher at Canaan SDA High School in Belize City which occurred on the twenty-second of March, 2023. While all the details of this incident have yet to be established and a full report of this incident is yet to be received by our ministry, we would like to place on record, our disapproval of the behavior displayed by both parties. Such behaviors only seek to undermine the trust that should encompass student/teacher relationships in an amicable and safe classroom setting”. The Ministry of Education says that it is working with the managing authority of Canaan SDA to resolve the issue.
