C.Y.D.P. announces summer activities

Classes may have just resumed for primary school children after the Easter holidays, but already plans are well underway to provide some meaningful activities for summer. The Conscious Youth Development Program has put together a calendar of events, including sports, which are intended to provide positive outlets for young people to channel their energies. Keith Yearwood is the coordinator of the Youth Awareness Program.

“We want the youths to gain from this program… on first hand knowledge, sportsmanship and to show them that we have a future in sports in Belize. We have an agenda of activities that we’ll be having throughout this summer. Basketball tournament, talent show for the Youth Hostel and Girls Home and a variety show promoting our singer Mr. Louis Ganzie. Well it started with me and my brother, the director of this project. We were just having a meeting one day and decide on this program, to give back to the youths what we have learnt over this period of time that C.Y.D.P. has been started, that C.Y.D.P. has started.”

Yearwood says that already fifteen teams have signed up to take part in the basketball tournament, which will be held at the Yarborough court on May ninth. The summer Youth Awareness Program by C.Y.D.P. in Belize City will be used as a pilot and if successful the organizers say they will attempt to take the project countrywide.
