Dolores Balderamos Garcia

We continue our coverage of the 2023 budget debate with contributions made by Dolores Balderamos Garcia, the Minister of Human Development, Families and Indigenous Peoples Affairs. The Leader of the Opposition, in his presentation, chastised the Briceño administration for what he thought to be a decrease in the ministry’s budget. Well, Minister Dolores Balderamos-Garcia refuted those claims, noting that the sum allocated to her ministry in the new fiscal year has in fact increased.

Dolores Balderamos Garcia, Minister of Human Development

“The Ministry of Human Development, Families, and Indigenous People’s Affairs, the draft estimates for recurrent expenditure for this fiscal year is sixteen million six hundred and six thousand, seven hundred and eighty. Sometimes I really feel sorry for the Leader of the Opposition you know, he doesn’t even read. This budget, recurrent estimate is more than what it was last year, and he is talking about spending less on human development> He just is at sea, completely at sea. Sixteen point six million recurrent expenditure Madam Speaker, and in the millions for cap two expenditure and let me read out the entire amount, it is seven million, three hundred and seventy-four thousand, five hundred and ninety-eight dollars, a  huge amount that has not been spent before in the development of our people and country. We are making Plan Belize work. We are working the economy and the governance of this country this fiscal responsibility. We are offering prudent management and we are also focusing on business and entrepreneurship while not forgetting the social safety net. This budget proposal is reflecting the government’s commitment to the people and the human development of this country.”
